For 2012 , I am going to try and post a tutorial for a new ornament
every week. It will be a challenge  and I hope I am up for the task.

This first week I am going to cheat a bit by re-posting the tutorial I
did for the Snowmen at the top of the page.
I have not put any written instructions with this because I think the pictures are easy to follow. The lights are from the Lemax collection
and can be found at any craft store. They do not melt at the temperatures needed to bake the clay.
This design I make as both an ornament and a pin and it has consistently been one of my bestsellers at craft shows for over 30 years.
Experiment with different hat and scarf color combinations. Purple in various shades has been very popular the last few years. Red
hats and purple scarves are also popular.  The snowmen in the above picture have a snowball at the bottom. I personalize these
ornaments at shows and I put the year on the snowball.

BLOOMING WEDDING POT
January 9, 2012

Well, here is my second week and I have to cheat again by posting the instructions from one of my old ebooks which is no
longer available.  I did a series of flower pots which were inspired by a pot I made for my son's teacher when he was in fourth
grade.  He is now 24 and graduated from college so that was some time ago.  These pots are fun to make  for any occasion.
You can personalize them for the recipient any way you wish

Hope you like them...............and have fun claying.
For this project, you will need a flower pot, bamboo skewers, beads, artificial flowers, green styrofoam, wooden hearts, glue, and paint.
All the figures for he Wedding Pot start with mint green clay wrapped around a bamboo skewer.  The bodies are all tapered logs as shown. These
are attached to the stick with the tapered side down to the green clay.

Roll a thin piece of white clay and attach it to the front of the body. Roll 2 thin ropes of black . Cover the seam of the white and black to make the
jacket lapels.

Cut  two 1 inch pieces from a stick and insert into the top of the body.
Add a small white log for the neck (collar) to both the bride and groom figures. Attach the bride to the groom. I have put the groom on the stick and
have attached the bride by taking a paper clip, inserting it into the side of the groom and then pushing the bride into it. Smooth the 2 bodies
together. Add the leaves.
This is a quick easy way to make roses.
This is the method I use when I make
ornaments or figures for the pots..

Roll a short thin log and flatten it.

Start rolling it up at a slight angle. You
do not want to roll it straight. Practice
this a few times. It gets much easier with
practice.
If you want your roses to look a little more
realistic, you can use this method.

Use a toothpick. Make a small bud and put it on
the tip of the toothpick.

I make several small flattened balls of clay so I
can just add them as I go along.

Hold the toothpick in one hand and then just
layer the petals to resemble a rose.
When you are done, gently lift it off the
toothpick. I use my needle tool to do this. You
will lose a few
before you get the feel for this. Gently place
them where you want them to go but make sure
they are attached well so they do not fall off.
Add blush, bake, and paint on eyes.
The procedure for the bridesmaids and grooms men are
the same as the bride and groom.
To finish the pot:       Paint your pot white          Add the lettering      Add any embellishments you may want to put on     Add the styrofoam...I covered
the styrofoam with a white paper doily.     Add the figures     Add Flowers     I painted some bamboo skewers green and glued on the white hearts with
the couple's names and wedding date.
This is a fun pot for a bridal shower
or a wedding reception. Do your
research and tailor the pot to match
the colors, flowers and clothes of
the wedding party.
I

f you want to go all out, you can
make small pots of the maid of
honor, best man, groomsmen,
bridesmaids, flower girl, ringbearer,
and even for the parents of the
happy couple

The smaller pots could all be
gathered around the larger pot. And
if you really want to make quite a bit
of work for yourself, you can make
small pots for place cards which the
guests could take home

Great for a garden wedding !
More Pots
These are some of the pots I have done.

Some of the pots have embellishments, like the letters on the teacher's pot. They are made of polymer clay and glued on with
E6000.

The Tacky Sweater Ornament
January 15, 2012
I  decided to make this ornament when I noticed all the "Tacky  Sweater"
contests  that were going on around the country.  Most of the craft
shows that I do are in the fall for the Christmas season and every year I
see more than my share of Christmas outfits. Over the past 40 years, I
have probably seen thousands of different sweaters and I confess to
owning a few of those.

I hope you enjoy making this ornament. The sweater  design is up to you.
Pull out your own tacky sweater and transfer the design to your
ornament.  Look up Christmas pictures of your friends and loved ones in
their sweaters and make them an ornament for 2012.  I think they would
be delighted.

Have fun and if you have any questions , let me know and I will be happy
to answer them for you.

Add a nose and 2 ears. Indent the
ears with the end of a small
paintbrush, knitting needle, or
pencil. Use whatever you think will
work. Polymer clay really does not
require expensive tools.
To make the ribbon on
the package, roll a thin
sheet of clay, cut out a
square with a cookie
cutter and then cut the
strips you need with the
cookie cutter.
Add 2 leaves and
a berry to the star
and little red balls
to the tree.
I made a golf tee and golf ball on
this sweater, but you can make any
design you like.  Mine is all done in
clay, but you can paint the design
on the sweater after the ornament
is baked, if you prefer.

Of course, you can also use any
colors you like.

I added green embossing powder
to my sweater because I felt it
made the golf ball pop more.
The  next 2 tutorials will be up soon.  I am having some camera issues that I
am working on.
We have also had dark rainy weather which I hope will be gone soon.  I like to take
my pics outdoors.   The next ornament is a damsel in distress in a castle with a dragon on top.  I came
up with this at a craft show and all the little girls who saw me working on it want one so it will be on my
list for the Fall shows.
