Chapter 1 teaches you the polymer clay basics with a description of the clay modeling
compounds and the basic tools used. You can use any clay of your choice: Fimo , Sculpey,
Super Sculpey, Sculpey III , Premo , Cernit, Kato Polyclay , or even salt dough or bread dough.

Most of the tools used with polymer clay can be as close as your kitchen : wax paper or
parchment paper , cookie cutters , bamboo, skewers , garlic press, pasta machine, Kemper
cutters, paintbrushes , a needle tool and even knitting needles.

In basic techniques you will learn to condition the clay , roll it into a ball, a log, a triangle, a
snake ( rope ) , and teardrop shapes. You will use all these shapes in your projects.
